The bottom line of economic repair
When a connector or other integral component on your laptop fails, the chances are that the whole motherboard will need to be replaced. Outside warranty, that's expensive for you - and it may well put your laptop beyond economic repair. Or will it?
That was the familiar story until now. Topaz has recently been appointed by Toshiba to carry out many of the most commonly occurring repairs to connectors (and certain modem chips) at component level, one of very few service companies in the UK to be authorised to do so. That means for example that outside warranty a broken USB, modem, LAN or power connector no longer need mean the end of the line for your laptop.
The end result is that the cost of repairs for Topaz customers is lower on average because an expensive part can now be repaired rather than having to be replaced. For businesses, it is particularly important because it means that the total cost of ownership of Toshiba laptops is lower in the long run.
Open for Business
Many businesses depend upon their laptops and use them in "mission critical" applications. It is no coincidence that some of the UK's top companies and public bodies rely on Topaz to look after their Toshiba laptops. In this interview Steven Trigg of Topaz talks about some of the benefits offered to business users.

Out for lunch?
Recent research has revealed that office workers are exposed to more germs from their phones and keyboards than toilet seats. Work stations contain nearly 400 times as many microbes than lavatories, it is claimed*.
The official advice is that Office equipment should be regularly disinfected but Mike Pople, our hygiene-conscious workshop manager, offers his own advice on the issue:
"My number one tip," says Mike, "is don't eat your lunch whilst working at your laptop! Getting small particles of food between the keys and mayonnaise on the keycaps is not a good idea. This is really bad for both you and the PC."
Mike concludes, "Get out a little more, give yourself and your keyboard a proper break at lunchtime!"
